12/12/2024 – Meeting Agenda:

  1. Introductions – our little group is growing!
  1. Invite other “Government” Surveyors to join the group
    1. Is the Outlook Calendar Invite useful?
    2. Paul is updating the email list with anyone who is interested.  Please forward emails and calendar invites to interested parties.
    3. Other ways to generate interest in WCGS?
  1. Discussion Topic: GIS in Government Surveying – How do we use it currently (surveying, engineering, etc.) in our Departments (and related departments) and how can we leverage it to help further our programs?
    1. The benefits and pitfalls of having a Survey focused GIS:  Thoughts?
    2. Existing government survey GIS databases.  Who all has one?  Here is mine:  https://cowlitz.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=8838029e308e49df9bab1bd6ab89b27a  It is mostly focused on County Road Engineer Records Research, but we are working on a monument layer when we have time.
    3. Many Counties and Cities have existing GIS websites and databases but no survey data.  Can we add survey monuments, survey research, and other items to existing databases?  How hard is that to do, and where to start?
    4. CRAB Infrastructure mapping (GISMO) – Can we get survey monuments to be part of CRAB’s already required infrastructure mapping (Roads, Bridges, Signs, etc.) for each County?
    5. DNR’s Webextender
    6. Sharing best practices – What is your favorite Government survey website and/or GIS database?
